Linda's Bio

LINDA MONACO IS SMART, STRONG AND IN SYNC
WITH THE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE OF EAST HAVEN

Linda has been a general practice attorney for almost nine years and has owned Monaco Law, LLC, since January 2005. She relocated her office to Hemingway Avenue in East Haven in 2008. For Linda, being a lawyer is not about protecting big companies; it’s about representing people and the legal problems that occur in their lives. She has built her business based on that philosophy, and this past March Monaco Law opened its file number 1,000.

Linda was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1960. Her father was an engineer who worked for large companies all over the country. Linda, her mother and her two brothers traveled with him. They settled in Dallas, Texas in 1968.

Linda attended a private high school — the Greenhill School — where she excelled in sports, theater and music. She also became interested and active in charitable organizations such as the mortarboard society whose main goal was to service the community through a variety of volunteer work.
After Greenhill, Linda went to Texas A & M University, graduating in three years with a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Distribution, which is both engineering and business.

She married in 1980 and for the next 5 years worked for several companies, from telephone interconnect to computer companies. When she had her children, both boys, who are 2 years apart, she put her career temporarily aside and became a stay-at-home mom. When a wonderful job opportunity became available for her then-husband on the east coast, they moved from Houston, Texas to Connecticut in December 1994. They divorced in 1996, in Connecticut.

Linda loved living in Connecticut — its change of seasons, its terrain, its energy, the friends she had made — and chose to stay and raise her boys alone. As a divorced mother who had been out of the work force for quite a while, Linda found it difficult to find a job she enjoyed which also allowed her to support her family. She felt she needed more education and a new vocation and applied to Quinnipiac University School of Law. She received a partial scholarship and began studies in the fall of 1998. In 2001 she graduated Magna Cum Laude, at the top of her class.

Linda is licensed to practice law in Connecticut and Florida and has also been admitted to the Federal Bar for the second district. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice, Connecticut Trial Lawyers, the New Haven County Bar Association, where she serves on the Family and the Real Estate committees. She has taught continuing learning classes to attorneys in the real estate area and just recently finished teaching a class in Real Estate Law at Branford Hall as part of its nighttime Paralegal program.

She participates in the New Haven County Bar Association’s Modest Means Program for people who have too much income for legal aid, but not enough income for normal attorney fees. In this program she provides her services at a tremendous discount, instead of her usual fee. Additionally, beginning in 2009 and due to the economy, Linda implemented a sliding scale fee for her services for all of her clients. Linda is also a board member and the treasurer for the newly formed Great New Haven Exchange Club.

Linda and Gene's Wedding.

Linda became a resident of East Haven in 2004 when she married Eugene D. Monaco, a town native since 1948 when his parents moved there from New Haven. His father, Daniel was one of the first deacons to be ordained, serving at Saint Claire’s and then Saint Bernadette’s. His mother, Etta was the elementary school nurse in the five southern schools for 25 years.

Making Dinner for Family & Friends

Linda’s desire to serve East Haven doesn’t just come from her admitted romance with its beautiful beaches, fabulous fooderies and perfect location; it’s from her intense belief in the power of its people. People she’s grown to know, respect and rely on. She believes in East Haven, in its family values and its valuable families. She has one of her own.

Linda’s oldest son, Christopher, plans to make the Air Force his career and is on active duty in the Air Force. In 2007, he spent a year in Qatar and right now he is stationed at Herlbert Field in Florida. Stuart, the youngest is a senior at the University of Connecticut, majoring in finance, and will graduate in December.

As East Haven's representative in Hartford, Linda’s top priority will be jobs. Linda recognizes that we need jobs. Linda will work to have the government help businesses not hinder them. Linda will try to make Connecticut one of the best places to have a business instead of one of the worst.

Linda will work to help change the taxes and the attitude of government towards businesses. The Connecticut government needs to help and support businesses, especially small businesses. Small businesses provide the majority of the jobs.

Linda will work to STOP businesses from moving out of Connecticut. She will not stop there. Once the business environment in Connecticut has changed, then she will help Connecticut become be pro-active. She will help Connecticut to go out and get businesses to move here.
